WORKSHOPS

Introduction to Letterpress
Join us for a day of letterpress printing when you will be introduced to the joys and tribulations of this endangered craft. No prior experience is required.
Workshops are restricted to no more than three people and revolve around a single, collective project using an Albion hand press dating back to the 1840s. During the course of the day (typically 10 to 5 with a break for lunch) you will be introduced to the basics of hand-setting wooden or metal type; transferring the type onto the ‘stone’ and locking it up in a ‘chase’; inking the type by hand; then operating the Albion. This hands-on collaborative experience is likely to leave you with aching muscles, inky fingers and quite possibly a scrambled mind, but also a huge sense of achievement as you acquire new skills and create a piece of work crafted in a pre-digital environment.
Be warned, letterpress can become addictive.
